Urbio is one of the leading landscape architecture firms in the Nordic region specializing in sustainable urban development. Led by Mattias Gustafsson, they are overseeing the design of the exclusive garden terrace that belongs to Penthouse.

“The goal has been to create a rooftop terrace that is just as much an extraordinary outdoor living space as a beautiful view from inside the penthouse. With islands of greenery, we create different rooms that open up for privacy, intimacy and entertaining.”

The rooftop terrace features four raised planting islands with a blend of low plants and taller solitary shrubs. These islands separate the different landscaped areas of the terrace. At one end, for example, is a more private space inviting relaxation on the sleek sunbeds or in the spacious jacuzzi. At the other end, a generous social area opens up for dining and entertaining, complete with a larger outdoor kitchen, long table, lounge area, and a smaller bar section.

“For us, it was important to create a space that can be used for all occasions, from everyday moments to more festive ones. But also a place that can be enjoyed in both summer and winter.”

That’s why both lighting and plants have been given extra attention. The plant selection is based on silver-leaved species with accents of dark red foliage, in perfect harmony with the color scheme inside the home. They have been carefully chosen to withstand both wind and sunny conditions, spreading their branches beautifully, even in winter.

“The terrace is an extension of the indoor environment where the details seamlessly flow into one another. The flooring gives a sense of natural stone and blends harmoniously with the greenery as well as the interior color palette.”
